Aura Power have received a construction permit for a 200MW battery storage system in Puglia, Italy.
Battery storage systems are essential in Italy to ensure a stable energy supply from renewable sources like solar and wind, which are intermittent. By storing excess energy and releasing it when needed, these systems support grid reliability, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and help Italy meet its climate goals.
Our journey in developing this battery storage project began with identifying a location that aligned with the country's energy needs and its commitment to renewable energy. After selecting a strategic site in a region with significant renewable generation potential, we conducted thorough feasibility studies, including grid assessments and environmental impact evaluations. Collaborating closely with local authorities, regulatory bodies, and engineering teams, we designed a scalable battery storage system capable of supporting grid stability by storing excess energy from nearby solar and wind farms.
The next phase involved securing the necessary permits and approvals, ensuring full compliance with Italian energy regulations and environmental standards. Now secured, we will initiate preparing the project ready for construction woking with local contractors where possible. During the construction phase, we will aim to ensur minimal disruption to the surrounding environment.
Once completed, the battery storage site will play a pivotal role in balancing supply and demand on the Italian grid, storing renewable energy during periods of excess production and releasing it when demand is higher. This project is a key step in supporting Italy's transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy system, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and enhancing energy security for the future.
A battery storage system is made up of a number of components, including lithium ion battery cells, inverters, cooling systems, transformers and switchgear. The facility is enclosed inside a fence for security purposes.
Battery storage systems are designed with multiple safety features, including advanced battery management systems (BMS) that monitor temperature, voltage, and performance to prevent overheating or overcharging. These systems also have protective enclosures and built-in cooling mechanisms to reduce fire risks. Furthermore, battery storage units undergo rigorous testing and comply with strict safety standards to ensure they can operate reliably and safely in homes, providing clean energy without compromising safety.
