Studley

Solar Farm

Aura Power (who recently merged with Verdant Energy and now operate as Aura Power) has commenced construction on a solar and battery storage site on land to the south of Atworth, Wiltshire.

‍‍The hybrid site will be built without subsidy and will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of up to 5,730 homes, saving around 5,030 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year.

Studley Solar Farm will not only increase the supply of clean power, it will help to reduce national power prices whilst decarbonising the economy. As a local business, the development will be contributing over £50,000 in business rates to Wiltshire Council every year. The solar farm is designed sensitively to protect the natural environment; new trees, hedgerows and wildflower planting will increase biodiversity levels by over 20%.

We are also offering a Community Benefit Fund of £25,000 for social, educational and environmental projects in the local area. Educational sessions with local schools and site visits to the solar farm are also offered as part of the fund.

September 2026 - Initial pre-construction works began in August. Full site mobilisation is due to begin imminently, with equipment deliveries starting at the end of September. The main construction works are expected to begin from early October and will include the installation of steel piles, solar panels, mounting structures, electrical equipment, cabling, battery storage and a new substation.

Construction of the underground cable route connecting the site to National Grid's Melksham Substation is planned predominantly on private land to avoid disruption along the public highway. Works are expected to begin later this year.

The solar farm is anticipated to be fully operational in summer 2027, with landscape planting taking place following the main construction works.

The Design

The Design
  • The site will be connecting directly into Melksham's National Grid substation via a cable route predominently on private land.
  • We have conducted extensive environmental surveys, which have informed the design and help mitigate any negative impacts.‍
  • The development of the design accounts for local community feedback.
  • The site includes significant new tree and hedgerow planting for screening purposes and new habitats for wildlife.
  • Species rich grassland and wildflowers will be sown within the site, improving the soil quality, drainage, carbon sequestration and biodiversity.
  • Sheep grazing will occur in controlled stocking densities once the site is operational to continue agricultural uses and support biodiversity.

‍

Construction Route

All construction vehicles will be required to use the designated and signposted construction route, routing to the site from the west, via the Bath Road then turning right onto Studley Farm Lane. Drivers will be provided with details of the approved route before travelling to site, and the use of alternative routes will not be permitted.

Construction traffic will be at its peak between September and December, after which point the volume of deliveries are expected to decrease.
