Aura Power (who recently merged with Verdant Energy and now operate as Aura Power) have developed a solar and battery storage project on land to the south of Oxford, Oxfordshire.
The hybrid site was built without subsidy and generates enough electricity to power the equivalent of up to 5,730 homes, saving around 5,030 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year.
The UK Government has targeted to triple current levels of solar capacity by 2030, which is critical in decarbonising our electricity grid. Solar power is one of the cheapest, most readily-deployable energy sources we have, and it will be a key part of achieving homegrown, clean power by 2030. The battery storage units store energy from the grid at times of low demand and export back onto the grid when it is needed the most, optimising the energy generated by renewable energy sources.
This solar farm offers a number of benefits locally with net gains in biodiversity and annual contributions of over £100,000 in business rates to South Oxfordshire District Council.
