Bulphan Fen

Solar Farm

‍Bulphan Fen is an operational solar farm and battery storage site in Essex. The project became part of the Aura Power portfolio after the recent merger with Verdant Energy.

‍‍The hybrid site was built without subsidy and will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of over 23,000 homes, saving around 5,030 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere each year.‍

The UK Government has targeted to triple current levels of solar capacity by 2030, which is critical in decarbonising our electricity grid. Solar power is one of the cheapest, most readily-deployable energy sources we have, and it will be a key part of achieving homegrown, clean power by 2030. The battery element of the site optimises the electricity from the solar panels and helps balance the grid.

This solar farm offers a number of benefits locally with net gains in biodiversity and annual contributions of over £100,000 in business rates to Thurrock Unitary Authority.
