Solar Farm

Aura Power (who recently merged with Verdant Energy and now operate as Aura Power) has nearly completed construction on a solar farm on land to the west of Ipswich, Suffolk.

The hybrid site was built without subsidy and will be connected into the local electricity network. The solar panels will power the equivalent of 10,600 homes and displace 4,660 tonnes of CO2 every year it is in operation. The battery storage will provide power for over 80,000 homes for a duration of 2 hours, multiple times per day.

The UK Government has targeted to triple current levels of solar capacity by 2030, which is critical in decarbonising our electricity grid. Solar power is one of the cheapest, most readily-deployable energy sources we have, and it will be a key part of achieving homegrown, clean power by 2030. The battery storage units store energy from the grid at times of low demand and export back onto the grid when it is needed the most, optimising the energy generated by renewable energy sources.

This solar farm offers a number of benefits locally with net gains in biodiversity and annual contributions of over £100,000 in business rates to Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils.
