We have recently secured planning consent for a 49.9 MW solar farm in East Staffordshire.
East Staffordshire Borough Council resolved to grant planning permission in March 2025, subject to the signing of a legal agreement. We have since been working proactively with the Council to secure a Section 106 Agreement, which has now been sealed and planning permission formally granted.
The solar farm, once operational, will generate enough renewable electricity to supply the equivalent of around 11,500 typical homes, saving an estimated 12,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, compared to electricity generated from natural gas. In addition, it will also deliver a significant biodiversity net gain of over 100% with site wide species-rich grassland and wildflower meadows, farmland bird nesting plots and towers, and additional native tree planting and hedgerow enhancement, both for improved screening and to boost biodiversity.
The UK Government seeks to triple solar capacity by 2030 as part of its decarbonisation efforts, with both rooftop and ground mounted solar required in order to meet that target.
Solar offers huge potential to boost the UK’s energy independence, bring down energy bills and tackle the climate crisis. It also presents a significant economic opportunity. The recently released Solar Roadmap forecasts that the solar sector could support around 35,000 jobs by 2030.
We are working towards a grid connection date of September 2027, with construction works anticipated to commence in early Spring 2027.
Moreton Brook solar farm joins our almost 0.6 GWp of ready to build (RTB) projects in their solar portfolio, which we are currently working towards constructing. We currently have three solar farms under construction with their flagship project at Kemble due to be completed later this year, and Burtree Lane and Grimsby early in 2026.
We are also offering a £20,000 a year community benefit fund and looks forward to working with the local community to support local projects and initiatives.
George Wilyman, UK Head of Planning at Aura Power,“We’re pleased to have received planning consent for Moreton Brook Solar Farm, which represents another important step in delivering low-carbon energy infrastructure in the UK. This project reflects our continued commitment to well-designed, locally informed developments, which support both the national energy transition and biodiversity enhancements.”
