Aura Power has completed the sale of its 200MW battery energy storage system (BESS) project, located in Apulia, Southern Italy, to ZE Energy, a French independent power producer (IPP). The transaction is the third BESS sale Aura has realised in Italy in the past year and marks an important milestone for the company following its recent acquisition by CVC DIF.

The standalone BESS will have a storage duration of more than six hours, providing 1GWh of energy storage capacity. Strategically located just outside the town of Troia, the project will have the ability to connect directly to an existing Terna substation, enabling stored energy to be exported to the grid when it is needed most. The region has a high concentration of wind and solar generation, creating a strong need for flexible energy storage to support grid balancing and integration of renewable power.

This sale adds to Aura Power’s track record of successfully realising more than 3GW of renewable energy and energy storage projects across multiple markets. Following its recent transition to an independent power producer (IPP) in the UK and merger with Verdant Energy, Aura has a combined solar and storage portfolio of around 1 GW of operating and under-construction assets, targeting 3 GW of operational assets by 2030, supported by its new shareholder, CVC DIF. The partnership with CVC DIF provides Aura with long-term institutional capital and the financial strength to invest in, develop and retain a growing portfolio of high-quality renewable energy and energy storage assets. 

Alongside its UK IPP activities, Aura continues to develop a significant European pipeline of approximately 7GW of battery storage projects across Italy, Portugal, Lithuania and Germany, positioning the business to play a growing role in supporting the energy transition and the increasing need for flexible, reliable energy infrastructure.
